The Roman villa of Sant’Imbenia
is located on the coast of the Porto Conte gulf, a well-sheltered natural harbor known since antiquity.
The luxury residential complex was probably owned by wealthy members of the Roman aristocracy; to date, more than fifty rooms have been brought to light, for the most part in the residential portion of the complex along the seafront and around the large centrale courtyard.
It has established that many of the rooms had mosaic floors and were decorated with marbles, painted plasterwork and stuccos of such sophisticated taste and excellent workmanship as to rival any of the richest patrician homes of Rome and the indeed the rest of the Mediterranean area.
